Tilta Nucleus-M II Announced - Touchscreen and Four-Channel Control

Tilta has announced the Nucleus-M II, the next generation of their wireless lens control system. The new version retains its modular design and is backward compatible with first-generation motors and accessories. Key updates include four-channel Focus, Iris, Zoom, and ND control, faster response times, and a redesigned hand unit with a 2.4-inch touchscreen interface. Let’s take a look at what’s new.

Tilta is an accessory manufacturer that has already released a plethora of products this year, namely a FUJIFILM X-M5 Cage, and the Tilta Charging Case and NP-FZ100/NP-FW50 Batteries. We’ve also reviewed some of them, such as their new tripods and the Tilta Khronos Accessories for iPhone 16. First introduced in 2017, the original Nucleus-M became a widely used solution for wireless lens control. The Nucleus-M II continues that momentum, updating one of Tilta’s widely used systems with more control and modern features.

FIZ Handwheel Controller

The FIZ Handwheel remains the core of the Nucleus-M II system, now with a 2.4-inch color touchscreen, physical buttons, and support for left-handed users. Powered by an NP-F550 battery, it adds adjustable tension, a depth of field indicator, and wireless camera control for ISO, white balance, shutter speed, and more (with compatible models). Users can switch between physical and on-screen focus markings using the removable electronic focus ring, which can be marked manually when detached. The controller also stores mapped lens data for up to 128 lenses, displaying real-time FIZ (Focus, Iris, Zoom) info to help assistants hit marks accurately. Focus markings are “remembered” even when swapping between NP-F batteries.

Paired motors have been updated with increased torque (0.48 Nm), gear direction adjustment, support for 0.8 and 0.5 pitch gears, and a new PID 2.0 algorithm for smoother focus pulls. Response time is now as fast as 0.02 seconds, and motor gears remain swappable.

Power, mounting, and control options

A single NP-F550 powers the hand unit, which features a quick-release handle for handheld or mounted use. The system is optimized for gimbals like the DJI RS 2 and includes built-in DJI RS protocol support for direct motor control without additional gear.
