Core SWX Nano M-Snap Battery Packs with USB-C PD and Powerbase Edge Snap Xtreme Announced

The Core SWX Nano M-Snap is a newly announced series of battery packs that come with magnetic stacking technology that can distribute power from a single USB-C PD charging cable. The NANO-C98MX is an HDV pack for select Canon cameras and the NANO U98MX is a BP-U style battery for select Sony cameras – both 14.8V with P-Tap output. The NANO-FMX is a Sony L-series pack (7.26V). Apart from that, Core also announced the Powerbase Edge Snap Xtreme – a new stackable powering solution with two PD Pro USB-C ports, two P-Tap ports, and a new locking mechanism. Let’s take a closer look!

Core SWX traditionally announces new battery packs with new features during the NAB show. Last year, it was, for instance, the PD Pro power connection. This time, there are again multiple new products. One of these is the Nano M-Snap battery packs. Let’s take a quick look at them.

Core SWX Nano M-Snap batteries

First off, Core SWX Nano M-Snap will come in three different models depending on which camera you want to power:

  • NANO-C98MX – This is an HDV type battery for select Canon cameras, capacity is 98Wh (14.8V, 6600mAh). Size: 3.85” x 2.6” x 1.65”, weight: 0.9lbs
  • NANO-U98MX – This model is a BP-U type battery for select Sony PMW/PXW cameras, capacity is 98Wh (14.8V, 6600mAh). Size: 3.85” x 2.6” x 1.65”, weight: 0.9lbs
  • NANO-FMX – The third model is a Sony L-series battery with a capacity of 69Wh (7.26V, 9506mAh). Size: 3.4” x 2.9” x 1.82”, weight: 0.7lbs

The innovative new feature of these battery packs is the so-called M-snap. This magnetic snap-charge technology allows multiple packs (regardless of mount type or voltage) to be magnetically stacked and charged through a single PD Pro (USB-C) connection. Interestingly, you can mix the 7.26V of the L-series battery and the 14.8V of the BP-U or HDV battery, as the PD Pro port will deliver the right voltage to each pack.

I like it when battery packs can be charged via USB-C as it makes the charging setup much more compact. When it comes to the maximum output of the USB-C port, both the C98MX and U98MX can deliver up to 45W power via the USB-C while the NANO-FMX works on a lower voltage, so it maxes out at 30W USB-C PD.

On the rear panel of every Nano M-Snap battery pack, there is a handful of useful details – a USB-C PD port for charging, a status ring LED power gauge to check the charge level, a P-Tap output (not on the NANO-FMX), and a 1/4″-20 mounting thread for accessories (although I would probably not mount anything heavy on it).

Core SWX Powerbase Edge Snap Xtreme – features

The new Powerbase Edge Snap Xtreem battery pack (PBE-SNAPX) comes with a 98Wh capacity (14.54V DC, 6.8Ah) and a maximum load of 10A (at 14V).

The snap lock mechanism is made out of a reinforced nylon latching system and is designed to hold even in extreme environments, according to Core SWX. Thanks to this design, the packs can be connected in parallel to extend runtime and increase load output. The connection is hot-swappable for uninterrupted power.
